Why Autumn Is Our Favorite Time of the Year

It’s been a long, hot summer, hasn’t it? By most accounts, it’s been the hottest on record, whether you’re sweating it out in Texas or New England. But that’s finally about to change. Though the temps won’t automatically drop on September 22, the first official day of fall, the evenings and mornings are already cooling down, and the days will follow. There are many reasons, though, why autumn is, for many, the best time of the year:

· The colors—Regardless of where you live, there’s somewhere you can go to see the amazing transformation, as leaves gradually turn brilliant shades of red, orange and yellow. Better yet, get out of the car and walk through the woods, so that you can smell, feel and hear the leaves beneath your feet.

· The holidays—Two of our favorite times of year—Halloween and Thanksgiving—come in the fall. Be a kid again as you put on a costume, carve a pumpkin and enjoy the make-believe world of All Hallow’s Eve. Take the time to appreciate the many blessings of your life, including family, as you gather around the Thanksgiving table.

· The food—We love the fall harvest, from savory acorn and butternut squash to apples, pears, cranberries, grapes, and pumpkins, all making fall a time of amazing desserts. There are all the traditional foods that come with Thanksgiving, and don’t forget all the great tailgate food!

· The outside activities—Isn’t it great to spend some time outside without the oppressive heat of the summer? Take a hike through the woods, get on your mountain bike or join friends for a hayride. Put together a game of touch football or visit a nearby farm for pumpkins, apples, cider or other fall harvest treats.

· Football—Is there anything better than sitting in the stands on a crisp Friday night in September or October, watching the local team vie for glory? How about Saturday and Sunday afternoons, tailgating at the stadium or maybe just in your backyard? Even if your team isn’t playing, it’s a great opportunity for fellowship and camaraderie.
