Going back to school shopping can already be a stressful event, but factor in a pandemic, and your head may be spinning. Shopping is the last thing on your mind when your main focus is sending your children to school in a safe way. However, children will still need supplies to help them do their best this school year. Here are some ways you can easily prepare for back to school shopping, preventing any unneeded stress.

First, put together an inventory list. Make a list of the items your child is required to have for this school year. Do this with your kids to make sure everything is on the list, and everyone is on the same page. This will help ensure that nothing important is forgotten. Once your list is comprised, check to see if you already have the item from previous years to avoid buying something you already own. This can serve as a great budgeting tool, as this will leave room for buying new and exciting items your kids want, instead of spending money on the same old ruler as you already have.

Next, go shopping for your items in a smart way. Start by color coding your pre-made list by kid or category to make shopping more manageable. Then, check online to see if your favorite retailers or brands are having any deals you can take advantage of before you go shopping. While shopping, keep in mind that quality over quantity might save more money in the long run. It might be tempting to buy the cheapest version of an item, especially when you have a long list, but if it is an item your child will need for next year, buying a quality item will prevent you from having to repurchase again.

Finally, keep in mind items that you find your kid runs out of a lot during the year. Create a back-up bin at your house with items such as extra glue, pencils, computer paper, staples, etc. This will avoid running out of an essential item the night before an assignment or project is due.

Back to school shopping can also be made into a fun activity for your kids. Items you already have from previous years can be a fun arts and crafts project. Stickers and markers are a great way for your kids to customize and revamp their old supplies to their liking. This will get them excited for the new year, while saving you money.
